A LITTLE MOTHERS PRAYER

On the 6th August 2023 Clover gave us our first little outcross puppies.

In the space of two hours and with never a murmur she gave us four beautiful healthy pups, two boys and two girls.

They are now all with loving families in the very best of pet homes.

We look forward to the next chapter,

All pups are special and these are even more so as they are amongst the first born under the name New Day Spaniel which is an outcross of the Cavelier King Charles Spaniel with the English Cocker Spaniel.

These are probably two of the most loved companion dog breeds we could be lucky enough to come across.

Each breed stands alone with its own womderful charactertistics.

The Cocker with its own sense of rollicking good fun, its energy and love of all things sporty

together with his soulful pleading exoression and almost regal dignity when the occasion calls for it.

And the docile, gentle sweetness of the super affectionate Cavalier still ever ready for a good romp along the beachor an exciting snuffle through the bush.

With each breed having so much to offer separately why would we want to change anything by combining the two.

There is only one reason for our doing this and that is for the HEALTH and WELFARE othe the New Day Spaniel.

Every breed has its genetic defects but the little purebred Cavaliler has far more thn its fair share.

We have called on the Cocker spaniel for help with one particular gentle defect which has become locked into the genetic makeup of the purebred Cavalier. These are defects within the skull which are known as CM and Chiari. Malformation. 98% of all purebred Cavcaiers worldwide suffer from CM.

The presence ofg CM sets the stage for the development of SM, SYRINGOMYELIA a word which sparks dread into the hearts of all knowledgeableCavalier devotees.

How has this horribe situation come about.

For fifty years of so breeders have gradually changed the shape of the purebred Cavalier skull from the oval shape of an AFL football to the rounded shape CNN of a soccer ball. This was done to please judges in the show ring.

Does the shape of the head really matter? /the answer is a resoiunduing YES! When it compresses the purebred Cavalier brain to the extent when cerebro spinal fluid cannot flow freely around the skull it does matter a great deal.

We fervently hope our Cockers will give ourCvaliers a roomier more oval shaped skull toatleaselessen the risk of their developing SM and greatly improving their quality of life.

This would indeed be a great new day for our beloved Cavaliers.

We have explained exctly how and why your puppy's breeding came about.

As with every puppy we breed we do ask that, as the people responsible for bringing your puppy into the world you allow us to resume responsibility should your circumstances change. Should the occasion EVER arise when you are eunable to care for this little dog wheter hours, days or years down the track please do let us know and together find a happy outcome.

We wish you many happy and healthy years with your little New Day Spaniel.
